    Euro area industrial activity stagnates as EU output increases by 0.2%

    BRUSSELS, BELGIUM / RankWire.AI / – Eurostat reported that industrial output within the euro area remained stable in June 2026 compared to May, while production across the European Union grew by 0.2%. These figures, seasonally adjusted, followed a 0.3% month-on-month growth in both regions during May. When comparing to June 2025, the euro area saw a 0.1% increase in production, whereas the EU experienced a 0.6% rise. The latest data reveals varied movements across major industrial sectors and member states. The release covers industry excluding construction and uses seasonally adjusted figures for month-to-month comparisons.

    In the eurozone, non-durable consumer goods led the monthly increase with a 3.0% rise, energy production went up by 1.5%, and durable consumer goods output edged higher by 0.3%. Conversely, capital goods output declined by 1.4%, and intermediate goods decreased by 0.8%. These movements kept the overall industrial production index at 98.7, unchanged from May on the base year 2021, which is set at 100. In May, non-durable consumer goods had increased by 3.3%, energy gained 2.6%, and capital goods rose by 0.5%.

    Across the EU, production of non-durable consumer goods grew by 2.5% in June, accompanied by a 1.0% increase in energy output. Durable consumer goods advanced by 0.9%, while capital goods production dropped by 0.9%. Intermediate goods output fell by 0.7% from May. The EU’s industrial production index reached 101.0 in June, up from 100.8 in May. Since January, when the index stood at 99.2, there have been five consecutive monthly increases through June.

    Member states exhibit significant monthly variations

    Among EU countries with available data, Denmark experienced the largest monthly increase, rising 5.4% in June. Croatia followed with a 5.2% gain, while Lithuania and Finland each saw a 2.1% rise. Luxembourg experienced the steepest decline at 10.7%, with Portugal down 3.9% and Estonia decreasing by 2.2%. Germany’s industrial output increased slightly by 0.2%, France remained unchanged, Italy declined by 1.0%, and Spain’s output fell by 0.7%. Ireland’s production rose by 2.0%, whereas the Netherlands decreased by 1.7%, and Slovenia dropped by 2.0%.

    On an annual basis, industrial production in the euro area grew by 0.1% in June. Specifically, intermediate goods increased by 0.4%, energy output rose by 0.9%, and capital goods edged up by 0.1% compared to the same month last year. In contrast, durable consumer goods decreased by 2.5%, and non-durable consumer goods declined by 0.5%. Across the EU, total production increased by 0.6% year-over-year, with intermediate goods up 1.0%, energy up 0.3%, and capital goods rising 0.9%, while both categories of consumer goods experienced declines.

    Lithuania records top annual growth among member states

    Lithuania led the member states with available data in annual industrial growth, posting a 7.7% increase. Denmark followed with a 6.1% rise, while Poland saw a 4.9% increase. Finland grew by 4.6%, Hungary by 4.1%, and Czechia by 4.0%. Luxembourg experienced the largest annual decline at 7.9%, with Romania decreasing 5.6% and Estonia dropping 4.6%. Germany and France each saw a 0.5% decline, Italy fell by 0.6%, and Spain increased by 1.0% compared with June 2025.

    Eurostat also updated its estimates for May’s industrial production from the figures published on July 15. The monthly change in the euro area was revised from a 0.2% decline to a 0.3% increase, while the EU’s figure shifted from a 0.1% decrease to a 0.3% gain. The annual output for May was adjusted to show a 0.1% decline in the euro area and a 0.6% increase across the EU. Eurostat compiles these regional series based on seasonally adjusted national data and estimates recent missing observations when forming aggregate figures.
