Apple rolls out iPhone 18 Pro with enhanced camera features and AI capabilities

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing significant improvements in camera technology, overall performance, and battery efficiency. Both devices are equipped with a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera that features a variable aperture. They also incorporate the new A20 Pro chip along with an upgraded vapor chamber cooling system. Additionally, Apple has redesigned the Dynamic Island to provide more detailed information at a glance. Preorders will commence on September 12, with sales beginning on September 18 in over 65 countries and regions.

The redesigned Main camera employs six laser-cut blades to shift seamlessly between four aperture settings, allowing users to adjust depth of field and light intake within the Camera app. Pro controls now include manual options for shutter speed and white balance, while a histogram feature assists in monitoring exposure levels prior to capturing photos or videos. Photographic Styles have been updated to include controls for texture and grain, and the devices also support post-capture Cinematic effects on video recordings up to 60 frames per second.

Apple introduces the Reference Image, a new tool for verifying whether photographs have been altered after capturing. When taking pictures with the Main camera, signed sensor data is recorded in Reference mode, which is then processed into a reference image by Private Cloud Compute. Users can compare this reference image with the original photo within the Photos app. Apple has announced plans to support SynthID later in 2026, and states that image metadata will serve as an additional method for identifying AI-generated or edited images.

Variable aperture expands camera control options

The A20 Pro chip is built using a 2-nanometer process, integrating a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU, which Apple claims provides up to 40% faster graphics performance compared to the A19 Pro. The chip features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine totaling 32 cores. Its redesigned thermal system connects the processor directly to a larger vapor chamber that has three times the surface area of the previous generation, resulting in better sustained performance during intensive tasks.

Battery life has been extended on both models, with the most notable gains observed in eSIM-only versions. The iPhone 18 Pro supports up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours under similar conditions. Fast-charging capability allows the Pro model to reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes when using compatible wired accessories. The eSIM-only models, which eliminate the physical SIM tray, will debut in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Siri AI debuting with iOS 27

Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro series supports the latest Apple AI features, with Siri AI entering beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish will follow in October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos when responding to requests and is capable of providing answers based on on-screen information. Tasks processed through Private Cloud Compute are cloud-based, whereas other functions are handled directly on the device.

Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, with the iPhone 18 Pro Max starting at $1,299. Customers can select storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB, with finishes available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, and the initial retail release will be on September 18 in select markets, followed by availability in an additional 20 countries and regions on September 25.
